When elephants rest, do they remain standing or do they lay down?

+1.  Isn't there a company logo that shows two elephants faced off like this?

Do these animals ever get jumping because you are there?  I just looked through a few of your posts here and absolutely enjoyed the close ups you captured.  Now I'm guessing (and see) you are using a super long zoom.  But still, I can be driving home from work and there is a large field that I'll usually see dear in.  The moment I stop, and mind you, these dear are a good ~200 yards away.  The moment i get out of my truck, these animals nearly disappear.

How do you capture these shots while the animals look unphased by you being there?

Good question!
Although I use 400mm a lot, times i wish I had a 600mm and others like the below when im shooting at around 100mm (uncropped) There are general park rules as too how close you can get except if the animals come towards you.

In terms of animal comfort, there is no universal rule except I would say by species. Cheetah and Lions are the most unbothered by vehicles (see vehicle shot below) unless someone does something stupid and unusual like like opening a door even slightly. Or as in some game parks guests are constant and loud and the animals are aggravated. I dont go to those parks.
The grass eaters are the ones who are the most skittish, they have to be. So gazelle, zebra etc. I have perfected a few techniques especially for zebra as they are just like the deer you mention. So part of it is about spending a lot of time observing and knowing the animals, some of the big cats I know by name others I get a feel for. I've been shooting in the same parks for over 30 years, that being said there is unpredictability every minute which is why I love going and exposing others to the opportunities.

I wouldnt say never but Ive not seen it. Cheetahs do it for a better vantage point. Lions dont hunt that way also apart from a few areas specific parks lions arnt big on climbing

Yep, this one is a looker.  I just saw Liem's question, what about elephants?  Have you had a elephant run at you?  I seem to recall watching a video some time ago, it was either a rhino or elephant that charged a car.  What's funny is that the car had to go quickly in reverse to avoid the animal hitting it.
