Easily without a doubt 70-200.

Wouldn't this be more of a tele zoom?  Or does that fall under the same bucket?

Standard Zoom I would have guessed would fall between 24 and 100mm.  That said, 24-70mm if I'm correct would be the best in this range.

The one on my camera.
The best photos are made between the ears of the operator behind the camera.

Exactly : Price, performance , ................

For me it was the Nikkor 43–86 mm in the 1970s and 1980s .

I presently have many lenses, but my Tamron 18-400  F/3.5-6.3 is the one that always goes with me when I leave the studio. I may take others, but tend to use this one more often. Sometimes it's the only one that I take, as I can shoot most anything near, far, or in between, and without the need to change lenses.

The Tamron SP AF 17~50 mm F/2.8 XR Di-II LD Aspherical [IF] (Model A16) on an APS-C body outperforms every 24-70/2.8 available on a 'Full Frame' body.

I have two, one for my Sony and one for my Pentax.

You're right.

24-70 would be the correct answer :)

LOL I was going to say the same thing.  Best can mean a lot of different things to different people.

Nikon D300: 24-70 2.8 | 70-200 2.8 VR |Sigma 150 2.8 | 50 1.4 | SB-800
