11 years 11 months ago - 11 years 11 months ago #237073 by Expressions On Canvas
Hi everyone! We are new to the forum and wanted to do a photo contest. We are giving a free 16"x24" on 1.5" stretcher bars canvas print. All you have to do to enter is post your favorite photo on this thread and on July 11th at 12 pm (PST) we will pick a photo that we like the most. Its that simple. Lets see what you guys can do!

For those who aren't familiar with us we are located in Paso Robles, CA and have been doing fine art printing for the last few years. All of the materials we use are the best of the best. Our printers have 12 colors and have the ability to print 98% of adobe RGB which is amazing. Our goal is to provide our customers with exceptional prints while giving them the best customer service out there. We don't mass produce our canvas prints. Each job is carefully gone over to make sure that the end result is a beautiful print. If we notice any thing with the photograph we will contact you to make sure your aware of it before printing. We want our customers to count on us and know that we stand behind our products. For more info or ordering you can visit our website which is www.ExpressionsOnCanvas.com .

Good luck to all!

One last thing. The contest is only valid if you located in the USA or Canada. Sorry for those who are not. It is because of the cost to ship international over seas.

It is very disappointing that you are on a forum that has members from all over the world and you limit your contest to the USA. How much does it really cost a business to ship 1 picture world wide?? Just saying!!

You will not be judged as a photographer by the pictures you take, but by the pictures you show.

It could cost more than the print.

I got a quote to ship a print to France and it was over $160. Since we are giving it away for free it is just didn't make sense.

Yeh this makes sense. Puts me way out of the running :pinch: , but I understand.

For the other people (who don't live on the other side of the planet like me ;) ). What kind of settings do you require for the print? I mean how many DPI, what colourspace and so on.

I took this picture when visiting this little town named Mahone Bay, whose sparkling waters offer a unique setting for some world-class sailing and boating. People from all over the world are drawn to the area. Located only 1 hour from Halifax, on the beautiful south shore of Nova Scotia.

Stealthy Ninja - Every company has there own settings they prefer but for us we like to see photos at or around 150 + dpi. In a perfect world I would say 300 dpi but it really isn't necessary. Having the higher dpi is great if we need to enlarge the photo or edit it. I have printed tons of photos that are 72 dpi and they also come out good (point and shoot cameras) just can't do much with them regarding enlarging. With all that said we can work with a lot but it is best to always send the largest dpi file you have. Regarding color space it also depends on the company. You can always tell if the company asks for sRGB then they are most likely using a solvent printer with 4-6 color inks. We ask our customers to send it as adobeRGB because our printers have 12 color inks and have the ability to print 98% of that color space. How it works is when a printer can't print the desired color in the photo it prints the closest color it can print so with adobeRGB you have a huge amount more color than sRGB so just think about all that color that you don't get. Here is a link to a decent article about this help.smugmug.com/customer/portal/articles/93362 . One last thing. When setting up your image for print keep in mind that the edges of the print get wrapped around the sides of the print unless you choose museum wrap. So depending on the thickness of the stretcher bars that could be .75" or 1.5" on each side. You can loose an important part of an image. We have a good amount of info on our website at www.ExpressionsOnCanvas.com . Sorry for the long reply.

Darrell - That is a fantastic photo!

Nice Entry Barry...

Question: are we limited to one entry?

garyrhook - Great photo! Good timing on the photo!

chasrich - Great photo! Is that an edited photo or that background actually part of the water?

No you can enter as many photos as you would like. This is for fun so the rules are pretty laid back. Got more post them up!!!!!
