- Mpix Metal Print Review
In last year's metal print shootout, Mpix held its own. It wasn't the best print of the bunch, but certainly wasn't the worst, either.
So, the question is, how does Mpix stack up in this year's shootout against expanded competition?
In this Mpix metal print review 2021, I'll do a deep dive into Mpix as a company as well as unbox and inspect their metal print for a detailed review.
Be sure to read about the best canvas print company on our website PhotographyTalk.com while you're at it!

About Mpix
Located in Pittsburg, Kansas, Mpix started as a small company.
Today, though, is a different story...
Mpix has grown into one of the largest online printers in the U.S.
As Mpix notes on their website, they have a staff of expert printers that oversees the printing of each image. Mpix touts their high-quality prints as well as their fast shipping - your print is out the door within 24 hours of the order being placed.
Mpix Hours
Since Mpix is an online store, you can place orders 24/7. You can also contact them with questions or concerns around the clock.
Use their contact form on their website to get in touch, or, alternatively, you can also consult the online help center.
Mpix Products
While I ordered a metal print from Mpix, they have a much wider selection of products.
You can get a canvas print if you prefer that to metal, or you can order framed prints, acrylic prints, poster prints, or even photo prints on wood. You can see all of the Mpix prints options here.
You can also choose from a variety of wall art, collages, photo books, and a host of photo gifts, like photo mugs, photo blankets, and photo magnets.
Mpix Promo Code
Mpix makes it easy to save money on their products because they have a dedicated Mpix coupons page.
Depending on the time of year, you might find deals of up to 40% off. Many of the Mpix promo codes are automatically applied, too.
Mpix Return Policy
If you have a problem with an Mpix product, like a print, you can get a reprint for free. All you need to do is get in touch with them within 30 days of getting your item in the mail.
Of course, the Mpix return policy also notes that prints will not be redone if the quality issue is out of their control, like the resolution of the original image file being too small.
The Mpix return policy also notes that color corrections are done to prints by an experienced color technician that uses a color-calibrated monitor. Since Mpix has multiple color technicians, there is some variability in how colors are corrected. These variations do not necessarily constitute a free reprint if you are dissatisfied.
Mpix Reviews
The reviews for Mpix are a bit all over the place.
On SiteJabber, shown above, the Mpix review stands at 3.96 stars, with quality and shipping being the categories for which they get the highest marks.
The Mpix reviews are much better on Facebook, where they get 4.4 out of 5 stars. This detailed review on Tom’s Guide, however, gives the company just 3 out of 5 stars.
Mpix Metal Print Review
My 2021 Mpix metal print review began by unboxing the print.
Aside from not knowing who the print was from (there was no Mpix branding anywhere, which wouldn't be a problem if I hadn't ordered so many prints from so many different companies at the same time), the packaging was actually quite robust.
As you can see in the video below, the print was wrapped in plastic, then wrapped in cardboard, then placed in a larger box. The print had no chance of sliding around, and because there was so much packing material on the corner of each print, there was really no way that the corners could be damaged in shipping. This is just what you want!
p>Once I unboxed the print, I inspected it for features like color accuracy, sharpness, and the overall quality of the print.
Some of the other prints I've reviewed as part of this 2021 metal print shootout have had colors that were off - I could see slight yellow tints in the green, blue, and purple areas of the image. But with this Mpix metal print, that wasn't the case. The color accuracy was quite good.
On the sharpness front, this print has decent sharpness throughout with a good balance of sharpness vs noise. Likewise, there is no significant banding (though you can see some lines when the light hits the print just right) and the transition of the colors from light to dark (e.g., in the sky) is pretty spot on.
So, the overall impression of the quality of the print in terms of colors and sharpness is quite good. It's not perfect, but it is definitely above average.
Honestly, the biggest problem I have with this print is with the mounting hardware.
It's a large foam backing with a plastic hanger glued to it. I just don't like this kind of mounting system - I think it looks cheap.
Credit where credit is due though - the mounting system is at least centered on the print and level, which is more than I've been able to say with other prints I've reviewed for this year's metal print shootout.
At the end of the day, this is a solid print that has outperformed many of the other prints that I've already reviewed. Will it be on top when all is said and done? That remains to be seen! Stay tuned for additional reviews in this series here on PhotographyTalk and on our YouTube Channel. We'll announce the best overall print in our 2021 metal print shootout in the coming weeks as well!
